Flying according to the visual flight rules is one of the fundamental requirements for every pilot license applicant. VFR cross-country flights combine the main principles of aviation practice, which a pilot needs to master during initial flight training. These principles encompass elements of piloting, navigation, and communication. The aim of this article is to present the basic legislative requirements related to VFR cross-country flights, including Rules of the Air defined by European regulations and the Aeronautical Information Services of the Slovak Republic. The article also describes the procedures for planning VFR cross-country flights, as well as innovative tools designed for flight planning and monitoring.
