Návrh technických úprav pre zvýšenie výkonu piestového motora hercules Teledyne 4A084
(University of Žilina, 2024) Bernáth, Martin; Čerňan, Jozef
This article concerns the investigation of the possibilities of increasing the power of the Hercules Teledyne 4A084 engine. The aim of this article is the proposal of technical modifications, that could be carried out on the engine in order to increase its power. In the introduction, the reader is informed about the piston engine in question. The article further takes a look on the effect of individual piston engine systems on performance. In the final part of the work, the ideal air flow through the carburetor for the Hercules engine is calculated, then modifications are proposed, which are expected to increase its performance. The modifications mainly concern the fuel system, the ignition system and the connection of the device for supercharging the engine.

Design and implementation of the aerobatic fuel system of the M60 engine
(University of Žilina, 2022) Horák, Tomáš; Čerňan, Jozef
The paper deals with the specific modification of the M60 two-stroke engine so that the engine can be used in aerobatic conditions. In the introduction of the paper, the basic theory concerning piston two-stroke engines, the principle of operation of this engine, and the analysis of individual fuel systems is first discussed, with a focus on fuel injection systems and their components. Furthermore, the preparation of the fuel mixture is characterized together with the factors affecting it and also the basic characteristics of the engine control unit. In this way, the reader will gain the knowledge necessary for a better understanding of the following chapters. The motivation is to find a way to modify the non-aerobatic engine for the needs of aerobatic flight, and this modification includes a number of important advantages over the original fuel system design mentioned in the paper. At the core of the paper, we discuss the design of the fuel system, including important modifications, and also the practical implementation of this fuel system on the engine mentioned above. At the end of the paper, we evaluate the results of the work achieved by changing and modifying the fuel system on the M60 engine, including the achievement of the set objectives.

Possible modifications of the automobile piston petrol engine for aircraft propulsion: cooling, starting and ignition system
(University of Zilina, 2021) Malíková, Zuzana; Čerňan, Jozef
The main goal of our work was to design a possible modification of the automobile piston petrol engine for aircraft propulsion and subsequently its implementation. The paper can be divided into four main units. The first part is aimed on the history and development of automobile and aircraft piston engines. We focused on their construction and gradual improvement of performance. The second unit is dedicated to theoretical knowledge of the cooling, starting and ignition systems. In the cooling system, we mainly described air cooling and the required components needed for that process. In the starting system, we paid attention to the necessity of starting gears, their types and uses. We described mainly electric starters and then we attached a diagram of the starting system. In the ignition system, we described the structural elements required for the process of igniting a mixture of fuel and air. In the following section, we described the engine used for aeroconversion, its parameters and the reason for its selection. In the last part we deal with the practical part of the paper. We created the component models needed for the complete construction of these systems, which were created in the computer program Autodesk Inventor Professional 2021. We prepared the cooling system for more efficient air cooling by adding deflectors, in the starting system we used a starter with a reducer to increase torque and reduce fuel consumption and in the ignition system, we proposed a modification of the flywheel made of dural material, which would reduce the overall weight of the engine. The result of our work is a finished design for aeroconversion of a flat four-cylinder engine. The modified engine is suitable for ultralight aircraft.
