Item Výška základne oblačnosti na Letisku Žilina pri rozličných poveternostných situáciách(University of Žilina, 2025) Hromadík, Matej; Jarošová, MiriamThis paper focuses on the analysis of cloud base height at Žilina Airport under various weather conditions. The objective of the paper is to analyze the cloud base height in relation to atmospheric fronts, pressure systems, and associated meteorological phenomena that directly affect the safety of air operations, with particular emphasis on training flights conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The study utilizes METAR reports and synoptic maps provided by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ). The months of August and November 2024, and January 2025, were selected for examination. Based on these data, an analysis was conducted of the occurrence of different cloud types, their base heights, and related weather phenomena such as fog, rain, thunderstorms, and reduced visibility. The results highlight typical cloud development patterns under specific synoptic conditions, contributing to better planning of air operations and enhancing safety, especially during training flights. The thesis also provides recommendations for increased attention during particular weather situations that may lead to limitations or complete suspension of flight operations.Item Changes in visibility caused by atmospheric fronts(University of Žilina, 2023) Valo, Sebastián; Jarošová, MiriamThis scientific thesis deals with the research and analysis of atmospheric fronts and their effect on visibility focused on aviation in Žilina airport, Poprad – Tatry airport and Košice airport. For the purposes of research and analysis of changes in visibility due to the atmospheric fronts passing through, METAR reports from the above-mentioned airports and bulletins of meteorology and climatology published every month were used. We analyzed reports from 2017 to 2021, a 5-year period. In this thesis, there is also an atmosphere with its layers, fronts and visibility. This scientific thesis was developed under the supervision of the thesis supervisor. For the analysis, we used METAR reports provided by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute.Item Comparison of fog occurrence at Slovak international airports for the period 1998-2018(University of Zilina, 2021) Michalovič, Adam; Jarošová, MiriamThe aim of the paper is to analyze and compare the occurrence of fog at the international airports of the Slovak Republic in the years 1998-2018. The paper explains the influence of weather on the flight, the influence of meteorological conditions on visibility, defines the fog and describes the international airports - M. R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava, Košice Airport, Poprad - Tatry Airport and Žilina Airport. Based on the analysis of METAR reports, we found that the average number of foggy days in the monitored period at Žilina Airport was 132.24 days per year. It is followed by Košice Airport (81.33 days), Poprad Airport (77.81 days) and Bratislava Airport (61.33 days). We attributed the high number of days with the occurrence of fog at Žilina Airport to its location, as there are up to nine water reservoirs and the main course of the Váh River in its vicinity. Bratislava Airport has ideal conditions in terms of visibility. According to METAR, 37 % of foggy days were recorded in autumn, 31% of foggy days in winter, 17 % of foggy days in summer and 15 % of foggy days in spring. At international airports, fog in the autumn meteorological period in the observed period from 1998 to 2018 occurred most often from 00:00 to 12:00, ie mainly in the morning and in the morning, with an incidence of 57 % to 71%.
